Ancient Witchcraft dates back to pre-Roman
Europe. Traveling groups of pagans
worshiped their gods in their surroundings
or homeland, earth, sky, water and fire.
Because these groups traveled they
often paid homage to the correspondences
North, South, East and West. This allowed
them to take their gods with them.
The North Star or Polaris was a strong reference
point in the night forthese early migratory
Europeans. Correspondences would differed
from region to region, as each area differed
in its geography, climate, and cultural beliefs.
The most common set of correspondences
places Air in the North, Fire in the East, Earth
in the South, and Water in the West.
Depending on geographic location groups
would worship where they felt the most realms
of Earth, sky, and water met. An example might
be a lake hill-side.
